Wasteland Comments

This was an interesting film, not only because of the pickers themselves, but also because of the remarkable method by which the photographs were organized. I had no idea they were made on such an enormous scale. Seeing the story behind the photographs and the remarkable way the pickers are able to live happily really completed the meaning behind them.

One thing that really got to me was the short segment in which the artist and his associates were discussing whether it was morally justifiable to give the pickers the opportunity to leave their lives at all. It reminds me that comfort and happiness are relative concepts.
